"Hey laideeeeeee"

I can't tell you how many times this week I have heard, "Hey laideeee, you want tuk-tuk?" To which I typically respond "No, thank you" in the kindest way possible. However, I've learned quickly that just saying "no thanks" does not mean said tuk-tuk driver will give up and stop asking. Today I was walking with my moto helmet in hand, and one of my responses to whether I wanted a tuk-tuk ride was "No, thank you, I have a moto," to which the guy responded, "You may have moto, but you do not have tuk-tuk!" I couldn't help but laugh. Morgan and I decided yesterday that we should count how many times we hear the words "tuk-tuk" throughout our time here. I'm pretty sure it would be in the 1,000s. At least. I can't help but think that upon our return home, I'm going to miss being asked at least 20 times a day whether or not I want a tuk-tuk. So, if somebody over in the U.S. could get start developing a tuk-tuk business in Cleveland, TN by March 2011, that would be great.

Speaking of the U.S., Morgan and I have both had our bouts of homesickness since we have been in Cambodia. However, I think the longer we're here, the more it starts to feel like home in its own little way. We are very thankful for the community of people that have welcomed and befriended us. Morgan and I both agree that it would be much harder to live here if we weren't surrounded by such a close-knit community. We are thankful for our new friends here and our friends and family from back home who continue to encourage and support us in this new journey. Honestly, the thing we are missing the most right now is a good Mexican meal. (Friends & family at home, don't be offended, we miss you too. But if you know us, you know how much we like Mexican food. This is due in part to being used to having at least 10 different Mexican restaurants to choose from in Cleveland and eating Mexican food at least 2-3 times a week.) What we would give for a late-night run to Taco Bell or dinner at Tres Amigos. Siem Reap does have a Mexican restaurant called "Vivo" that we have gone to a couple of times, so that will have to satisfy our craving for now.

As we keep you up-to-date with our life, please keep us up to date with your lives. It's always good to hear from you! It might take us a few days to respond, but we will respond as soon as we can!

  1. Haha, that's funny. I heard about tuk-tuks on American's Next Top Model a few seasons ago lol. I emphathize with your pain and missing Mexican food! I was in Jamaica for a week for a missions trip, and I was already craving and missinc Mexican food and good salads! Glad you have a loving community there to support ya'll while you are away from so many friends and family. Sending love and prayers!
